New solution for corrosion inspection in elbows by Phased Array

[:en]Pipe elbows are subject to damage due to, for example, flow accelerated corrosion (FAC). That is why the new Olympus Latin America FlexoFORM scanner allows, among other things, to perform longitudinal scans, either manually or automatically.

The FlexoFORM solution integrates a flexible multi-element ultrasound probe into a scanner to solve all inspection challenges. When combined with a water supply, this solution can be used to collect easily interpretable data on elbows with ODs ranging from 4.5 in. to plans.

This new apparatus for corrosion inspection in elbows by Phased Array (stands for phased antennas, an array of antennas in which the relative phases of the signals fed to each antenna are intentionally varied in order to alter the radiation pattern of the array) measures elbow thickness with great speed and efficiency , among many other utilities.

The solution offers many benefits

-Complete elbow coverage: 100% coverage in the elbow area for high probability of detection (POD).

-High resolution (1mm × 1mm).

-Intuitive imaging with C-Scan 2D.

-Inspection range of 1.3in to flat surfaces.

-Possibility of using a scanner, for example to carry out longitudinal mapping.

-The maximum scan coverage in a single pass is 64mm.
